Hemlock Semiconductor
On December 15th, 2008, Dow Corning Corporation and Hemlock Semiconductor, LLC announced that they will locate their next solar-grade polysilicon manufacturing facility in Commerce Park, Middle Tennessee’s only megasite certified by the Tennessee Valley Authority. An initial investment of $1.2 billion dollars and the creation of at least 500 jobs for the region was announced.
The worldwide site selection process began 2.5 years ago with 25 sites on 4 continents and culminated with the signing of agreements making Dow Corning and Hemlock Semiconductor, LLC Clarksville-Montgomery County’s newest employer.
Today, construction on the 500 acre site proper is well underway. Earthwork taking the site to grade was completed in March 2010 and steel is being erected on the first building. Production is scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2012.
